Pr. Jan Nuyts est spécialiste de l’interaction entre langue et cognition dans une perspective fonctionnaliste. Il est notamment l’auteur de Epistemic Modality, Language and Conceptualization : A cognitive-pragmatic perspective (John Benjamins, 2001), et le co-éditeur du Oxford Handbook of Modality and Mood (Oxford University Press, 2016, à paraître). Dans cette conférence il présentera des données historiques qui éclairent sous un angle nouveau l’évolution d’emploi des verbes de cognition.
